The Simple Heart of Plywood – A publication by 1 9 3 4
Introducing our first publication: The Simple Heart of Plywood
Taking the title from the words of Gerald Summers, our book hopes to shed light on the subject of plywood furniture produced by Makers of Simple Furniture – company founded by Summers and his wife Marjorie (officially in 1931).
Their work was based on the sole potential of plywood, and their catalogue of furniture ranged from hand-cut dove-tail jointed, flat sheet rectangular cabinets to almost-free formed armchairs using a single piece of plywood; small desk tidies to full scale interior projects.
Summers is a name that is not totally unheard, but whose work is scarcely seen.
