7-piece Furniture set, Hendrik Wouda, H. Pander & Sons, 1924
An extremely rare 7-piece bedroom set painted in yellow, with black details, red interiors, and purple upholstery – by Dutch designer Hendrik Wouda (1885 – 1946). Produced by H. Pander & Zonen the set was exhibited in 1924 at Pander’s Amsterdam store. Although it is described as “a young girl’s bedroom” it would easily suit anyone in any room (or divided) and was called-so for illustrative purposes. Wouda’s style typifies what we often describe as New Hague School but his primary colours indicate some affinity with De Stijl. Wouda’s clear definition of plains by use of colour certainly put this set into the latter category.
Each unit contains either a metal tag stating “H. Pander & Zonen, Den Haag, Amsterdam, Rotterdam” or simply impressed with “H . PANDER . ZN”
