Cabinet A803, Alvar Aalto, Artek, c.1933
An exceptionally rare cabinet from Alvar Aalto, especially its the use of Karelian Birch veneer. Karelian birch is grown in the small area of Karelia. The trees can only be harvested mid-winter and the especially unique soil in this region are what give the wood its burr.
This model, imported to the UK by Finmar (tag present), show some slightly less commercial details such as the ebonised handles, no keyholes, and high-end veneer.
Perfect structural condition.
