2x Springbok chair, Ernest Race, Race Furniture, UK, 1951

A pair of rare chairs that were only produced for the Festival of Britain in 1951 (unlike Race’s other chairs from FoB which are still in production now).

They were bought at the post-Festival sale by their only other owner, Oliver Cox CBE who was a British Architect and friend with Race himself.

Cold-bent steel frame and brass feet. The seats are made of grey PVC covered springs, of which a couple have come away from the frame.

Original colours were red, yellow, or grey covered springs – all frames were white.
