Cantilever Armchair 31, Alvar Aalto, Finland 1931-33
Alvar Aalto designed this chair – one of the first wooden chairs to use the cantilever structure – a principal that had previously only been used with tubular steel. The plywood here is strong – the seat and back being suspended between the arms.
This particular model has been overpainted several times – a bright red as its latest coat.
Worn in areas, and we love it!
Materials:
Laminated birch plywood, painted.
