4 seater plywood chair for children, 1960s

Four seater Nursery chair, Anon, UK, c. 1960s

Looks to be a prototype of some description. The bent plywood leads me to believe that it is not a DIY/shed job but rather by a maker in the field. It looks very Bernard Holdaway, and having seen sketches of his Nursery Furniture it could have come straight from there. It’s possible that he could have made prototypes in plywood as opposed to the cardboard of the finished articles, for the sake of quicker production. Of course this is all speculation. It could also look very Max Clendinning…

It’s an interesting hand made piece, dismountable too. Slotted centerpieces in the shape of a propeller and held together with blots and wing-nuts all labeled ABCD.

Original cushions are in vinyl and available as part of the set, but have deteriorated internally.

If anyone does know about this piece please do get in touch.

Materials:

Painted plywood, pine, steel wing nuts and bolts, vinyl cushions
