Six Legged Bench, Alvar Aalto, Artek, c.1935
Aalto contributed to the designing of the Helsinki Olympic Stadium, which began in 1933. Although Aalto wasn’t the head architect for this project, he did design furniture for the building. This included Bench 153, with a slatted top and only four legs.
This version, with plywood top and six legs, could have been made for a private commission or architectural project. It was not, as far as we can tell, sold commercially.
Condition:
Blue paint, cracking on surface.
